NCSC Program Evaluations

  • Bronx Educational Alliance GEAR UP Evaluation: GEAR UP is a national, federally funded six-year initiative operated by Lehman College at the City University of New York (CUNY) whose major goal is to increase significantly the number of low-income students successfully continuing their education at institutions of higher education. The NCSC evaluation documents, describes, and assesses efforts to encourage high school students in seven Bronx schools towards this goal. Enhancing academic support, increasing college awareness, and encouraging family and community involvement are GEAR UP’s major activity focus areas.
  • ENLACE Evaluation : ENgaging LAtino Communities for Education is a national, multi-year W. K. Kellogg Foundation initiative designed to increase opportunities for Latino students to enter and complete college.  ENLACE aims to strengthen partnerships and create coalitions among Hispanic-serving institutions and other qualifying higher education institutions, K-12 school districts, communities, businesses, and others who are working to increase opportunities for Latinos to enter and succeed in college.  NCSC assesses the effectiveness of the program implemented by Lehman College at CUNY in three high schools in the Bronx in New York City.
  • Greater New York YMCA 21st Century Community Learning Center Evaluation: The 21st CCLC is a national, multi-year, federal initiative designed to provide after-school services to enrich low-income elementary and middle school children by improving their educational, social, and developmental skills.  NCSC works to assess the effectiveness of the program as implemented by five New York City YMCAs in five elementary, five middle, and two high schools.
  • Greater New York YMCA Virtual Y Program : First implemented by the YMCA of Greater New York in 1997-98, the Virtual Y is a New York City school-based after-school program designed to build the spirit, mind, and body of children in second through fourth grades, and to enrich community, family, and school connections.  Between 1997-98 and 1999-00, NCSC conducted a three-year Charles Hayden Foundation funded evaluation of 66-100 Virtual Y sites.  NCSC now produces an annual Virtual Y program implementation study.
